William’s flair for art and design was born from watching his mother work as a dressmaker. One of his earliest memories was climbing upon her workbench and observing as she dexterously stitched with practiced fingers. He could sense her passion for creativity and how it emanated from her when she shared her expertise with her apprentices. Despite being regularly exposed to her artistic expression, fashion wasn’t an industry that interested William. Instead, he veered towards drawing and painting where he discovered his preferred form of art. By his late teens, William encountered wood sculpting and had his work exhibited in several art shows.
He enrolled in the prestigious Otis School of Art and Design in Los Angeles, which is predominantly known as one of the greatest fashion schools in the state. Nonetheless, he was still not particularly interested in fashion at that point and rather took graphic design as career choice.
Years after parting from Otis, he met a fashion choreographer who asked William if he could utilize his wood carvings as props for a fashion show. William distinctly remembers disliking the designs as he scrutinized them from the audience. Thoughts of designs he could produce himself swirled around his mind and right then he recognized the signs for his future career had been there all along. William excitedly returned home to brainstorm sketches for his budding designs. When the sketches were complete, he showed his friends and family who utterly loved them. Shortly after, William’s friends were requesting him to design their dresses which only ignited his fervor for fashion design further. Grateful for having the chance to transform his designs on paper into reality, William didn’t charge them and relished in the moment of seeing his designs appreciated. Selected designs were even featured in an indie boutique.
Naturally, his interest was elevated with each design worn, which prompted him to consider starting a line of his own. He received immense encouragement from his friends and family and decisively took the significant step into beginning his own fashion business. William realized that creating the designs were far easier than the business aspect and faced some harsh obstacles throughout his early journey, starting with pricing his line. William lost money in the beginning as he struggled to fill orders and market to the precise audience for his brand. In haste, he neglected his research to establish the right customer base and entered the wrong trade shows. However, through persistence and perseverance, he soon learned the correct pricing and discovered the right audience.
Over the years, William’s personal mission has been to search for the most pioneering ways to incorporate his artistry into his passion for fabric and design. The driving force behind his brand has always been to create arresting pieces for the astute woman at an affordable price.
